Terracotta. Not a colour I anticipated making a resurgence in 2021, but here we are …
While not a colour for everyone, terracotta has the power to add instant warmth. In Italian the word terracotta means “baked earth” which perfectly sums up the warm, natural colour of this pinkish-brown hue.
So how does one use it? It may seem daunting to paint out an entire room in this shade, but it will give off a beautiful warmth and looks stunning when hit with some natural sunlight. Keep your trims and ceiling white to keep the space feeling light and airy. Terracotta works beautifully with natural wood tones to create a truly “earthy” space and try adding pops of cold-colours such blue to create a contrasting yet complimentary accent colour.
If you’re not quite brave enough to paint out your entire space, you will find this hue popping up in all manner of home décor accessories. So, before you commit to a 10L tin try some more non-committal options of cushions, throws or even towels to add a pop of this on-trend shade into your home.
For those brave enough our favourite paint colours have to be Resene Just Dance and Sunbaked.

STYLIST'S TIP:
Stylists tip: I would save this colour for more contemporary homes, painting terracotta in a 70’s or even 80’s style home is likely to date it.
